Advocacy Forum: Union Pier

May 18, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Register

Historic Charleston Foundation (HCF), Coastal Conservation League (CCL), and Preservation Society of Charleston (PSC) have been working in coordination on advocacy surrounding the future of Union Pier. We invite the Charleston community to join us for an Advocacy Forum on Thursday, May 18th to continue the dialogue on the future of Union Pier Terminal. The redevelopment of Union Pier presents a critically important opportunity for Charleston, and we have just one opportunity to get it right. Our groups support development of a vibrant, resilient, and inclusive neighborhood that is reflective of the exceptional design principles of our world-renowned historic city. What has been proposed fails grossly to meet that charge and would dramatically and permanently alter the character of our city.

The forum will feature a panel discussion on the Planned Unit Development for Union Pier that has been proposed by the State Ports Authority and Los Angeles-based developer Lowe. Discussion will focus on the planning process, open space, housing, density and design, resilience and flood mitigation, and the need for a more civically-oriented vision for the site. Join us after the Advocacy Forum for a reception with refreshments and light bites in the lobby of The Charleston Museum, to meet and discuss more throughly Union Pier with our preservation leaders. RSVP encouraged.
